There are some trains
that I’d rather miss,
Not for the lack of enthusiasm,
of the destination; or the journey,
but for the abundant equanimity,
the present sometimes brings.
There are some trains
that I’d rather miss
For that one more homecooked meal,
for that one more day with my beloved,
for that one more game with friends.
There are some trains
that I’d rather miss,
because I’d rather take the highway
and sing a song about it
Or take an impromptu flight then write about it
There are some trains
that I’d rather miss,
And gamble with serendipity
For who knows the next train
might be worth missing this one for.
